Really that brings to light two kinds of photographers; the ones who take the time and effort to painstakingly plan a photograph, sometimes waiting months for the perfect lighting to create that special magic, and the ones who instead of creating magic, just go out and look for it. It calls to question whether the photo that took more effort is better than the spontaneous one. Personally, I think not, as photography is a form of art after all. Get too wrapped up in the technical details and one might forget that.
